Maryane K ★ 5 · Jan 2025Campsite was lovely, and quiet campground although difficult drive in the dark to get there. SO MANY STARS and great hiking trails around the lake nearby. We planned to visit Tahoe Lake, but realized how far it would be to drive, so we stayed local for the weekend. Decent amount of shade, privacy, but vault toilets with hand sanitizer.
Barry F ★ 5 · Aug 2024We experienced good weather, good fishing all in a beautiful campground.
Mark A ★ 3 · Aug 2024Love this area, been coming here since a child. Campground is currently showing signs of age….but I understand a revamp is in the works for summer 2025!!! Bathrooms need overhaul. Bear boxes and grills are sinking into the ground and lay uneven. Looking forward to summer 2026 and the updates!!!

About
Loon Lake Campground sits on the south shore of Loon Lake in Eldorado National Forest at about 6,500 feet, just west of the Lake Tahoe region in the Sierra Nevada. The lake-front setting shapes most of the activity here: anglers come for rainbow and brown trout, boaters launch for water skiing and exploring, and swimmers and shoreline picnickers take advantage of five picnic areas plus a separate day-use area with open views of the water. Trails for hiking, horseback riding, and off-road vehicle exploration fan out from the campground; one of the better-known nearby routes is the 18-mile Rubic…
