Booking Lake Tahoe Campgrounds: California vs Nevada

Published 2026-10-18 · Updated 2026-10-18 · Facts from California State Parks, Nevada State Parks, the USDA Forest Service and Recreation.gov, each linked.

The state line runs down the east side of Lake Tahoe, so which booking site you use depends on who runs the campground: California State Parks (ReserveCalifornia), Nevada State Parks (ReserveNevada), or the Forest Service (Recreation.gov). Private and city campgrounds take bookings on their own sites. Each stay page names its operator and links the real booking page. [California State Parks][Nevada State Parks][USDA Forest Service]

California State Parks (ReserveCalifornia)

Emerald Bay, D.L. Bliss, Sugar Pine Point, Tahoe State Recreation Area and Donner Memorial book on ReserveCalifornia (1-800-444-7275) up to 6 months before arrival. California State Parks says the Lake Tahoe area is popular and recommends reserving. [California State Parks][California State Parks][California State Parks]

Emerald Bay State Park's campgrounds (Eagle Point and the boat-in campground) are closed for the 2026 season; Tahoe SRA is closed for the season and D.L. Bliss camping closed after September 30, 2026. Check the park page before you go. [California State Parks]

Nevada State Parks (ReserveNevada)

Nevada State Parks reservations open 3 days to 11 months ahead, with inventory released at 8 a.m. Pacific on a rolling window. Unreserved sites are first come, first served one night at a time. [Nevada State Parks]

On the East Shore, Lake Tahoe Nevada State Park's Spooner backcountry has walk-in camps and cabins; Sand Harbor is day use and camping is not permitted there. [Nevada State Parks][Nevada State Parks]

Forest Service campgrounds (Recreation.gov)

Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit campgrounds — Fallen Leaf, Kaspian, William Kent, Nevada Beach and others — book on Recreation.gov: individual sites up to 6 months ahead, group sites up to 12 months. Most have a 14-day limit per calendar year and six people per campsite. [Recreation.gov][USDA Forest Service]

Some small Forest Service campgrounds are first come, first served only, with no reservations (for example Luther Pass and Watson Lake). [USDA Forest Service][USDA Forest Service]
