The campground is in a great location with one exception, it’s right next to hwy 89. It sits on the river which is beautiful, but the road noise outweighs the beauty of the river. It was clean and easy to get to. Spots are very close together—I was in spot 61. When my neighbors arrived, I thought they had taken my table because it was right outside my kitchen window. Paving needs to be redone throughout the campground. It’s cheap to camp there, but would be a better experience with some upgrades.
Lisa G ★ 4 · Oct 2025
We stayed 3 nights in site 59, which is a great site near the river. The only negative about this campground is the proximity to the road—you’ll hear a lot of road noise. Luckily the river drowned out some of it, but it’s still noticeable and does take away from the experience. Site 59 was perfect for our 35-ft fifthwheel, although we did have to squeeze our truck in. The campground is a great location for exploring the area—just minutes from Truckee, Donner Memorial State Park, Donner Lake, and of course Lake Tahoe. The weather during our visit was perfect, and we’d return if we were in the area.

It was nice by the river, camp host was helpful but it was too close to hy 89 so noisy

About

Granite Flat Campground sits on the banks of the Truckee River between the water and Highway 89, roughly one mile south of Truckee and a short drive north of Tahoe City and Lake Tahoe. The site is shaded by stands of Jeffrey and lodgepole pine and puts anglers within easy reach of fly-fishing for rainbow trout on the Truckee; many campers also swim or tube in the river when flows and conditions allow. Hikers and mountain bikers will find direct access to long-distance routes nearby, including the Western States Trail, Five Lakes Trail and a stretch of the Pacific Crest Trail, while reservoirs …
